DEPRESSION HELP WITHOUT ANTIDEPRESSANTS

Did you know that many doctors are now medicating unhappiness with antidepressants?

According to a government study, antidepressants have become the most commonly prescribed drugs in the United States. They're prescribed more than drugs to treat high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, or headaches..

In a study conducted at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, they looked at 2.4 billion drugs prescribed in visits to doctors and hospitals in 2005. Of those, 118 million were for antidepressants.

Reuters Health reports more than a quarter of Americans taking antidepressants have never been diagnosed with any of the conditions the drugs are typically used to treat, according to new research.

According to a report in Archives of general Psychiatry, Antidepressant use in the U.S. surged from less than 6% to more than 10%, or more than 27 million people in 1996 to 2005. This was the last period in which data were available. The study, which surveyed nearly 50,000 people above the age of six, reveals that antidepressants are being used to treat not just depression and anxiety but disorders ranging from back pain to sleeplessness.

The good news is Dr. Priscilla Slagle’s book “ The Way Up From Down” is a better way to deal with depression. The book is an easy to follow drug-free program that combines B vitamins & amino acids. This program has been used successfully in her practice for many years and is still helping people today.
